Steve Babbitt
Senior Pastor
Amazon #1 Best Selling Author Steve Babbitt came to San Diego from Carlsbad (New Mexico, not California) when he was 18 years old to attend Point Loma Nazarene University. He earned an undergraduate degree in Journalism and wrote for many of San Diego's local newspapers and magazines as a student -- and even won a city-wide college journalism contest with an article about homelessness.
Steve was able to start a very small public relations and web development shop, which freed his time to accept a position as the first Outreach Director for the Discovery Center in Ocean Beach, California (which was way more fun than PR work anyway!) During that time, Steve was able to attend Seminary and begin work on a Master's degree in Theology and Biblical Studies.
When Pastor Steve finished studies at Bethel Seminary in 2003, he and his wife Tammie joined with a group of dedicated friends to establish Spring Valley Community Church in south Spring Valley. They did so with the intention of establishing a community church -- one that is dedicated solely to bringing people from Spring Valley to a personal and transformational experience with Jesus Christ. Steve and Tammie have three adult children and find great joy serving among their friends and family at SVCC.
Pastor Steve has been actively involved in a number of community groups, including the Spring Valley Citizen's Association (past President), the Spring Valley Youth and Family Coalition (Core Committee), the Spring Valley Revitalization Committee (past Public Safety Chair), the Spring Valley Sheriff's Citizen Advisory Council, The La-Mesa Spring Valley School District Program Improvement Committee, the Spring Valley Responsible Property Management Board, and many more.
Pastor Steve works to support his family as a professional web site developer, and Tammie has been a public school teacher with the La Mesa Spring Valley School District since 1998, and a Principal since 2016.
Busy? Yes. Meaningful? Absolutely. "There is no question about it," says Babbitt, "this is what we are called to do, and we love every minute of it. It is so refreshing to know that this is where we are called to make a difference."
"Spring Valley is a unique place to live and minister -- and there is great potential in this place. Our prayer is for our friends and neighbors here to discover that there is so much more to life than the daily grind -- that God has dreams for each of us that exceed anything we could imagine. We look forward to seeing Spring Valley be transformed from the inside out."
