    When the Levee Broke

Many Seek Signs -- Few Seek Truth

In the life of faith, signs are window dressing; truth is the foundation.

    The Problem with Signs

Even the most convincing signs do not produce faith for someone who doubts.

Signs and wonders may encourage faith, but they are not meant to be the basis of it.

    Three Seekers:

Nineveh: Changed by the truth of Jonah's message
(They knew nothing of the whale.)
"So the people of Nineveh believed God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them."
    (Jonah 3:5)

The Queen of the South: Convinced by the truth of Solomon's wisdom
    (She observed no miracles.)
"Blessed be the Lord your God, who delighted in you, setting you on His throne to be king for the Lord your God! Because your God has loved Israel, to establish them forever, therefore He made you king over them, to do justice and righteousness."
(The Queen of Sheba to Solomon, 2 Chronicles 9:8)

Pharaoh: Demanded a sign from Moses — like the Pharisees with Jesus
(Yet refused to believe in the face of TEN INCREDIBLE signs.)
"So Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh; and the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not let the children of Israel go out of his land."
    (Exodus 11:10)

    Signs for Our Times

Disclaimer: signs are not to be casually discounted. It is a false teaching that God cannot perform miracles today. It is also a false teaching that He must perform miracles on demand.

    Are You Seeking a Sign?

Seek the truth of Jesus Christ first. Everything you need is right there.

"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."
    (Matthew 6:33)

    Blessed With Simple Belief

"...Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
    (John 20:29)

    New King James Version (NKJV)
The Scribes and Pharisees Ask for a Sign

38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.”

39 But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41 The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here. 42 The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here.
