  • The Serpent and the Dove

    The Serpent

“Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.”
    (Genesis 3:1a)

“So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
    (Psalm 90:12)

    The Dove

”...The heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.”
    (Matthew 3:16b)

“Be angry, and do not sin*”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath,
    (Ephesians 4:26 / *Psalm 4:4)

  • Sending Out the Twelve

    Temporary Instructions, Timeless Principles

These instructions were unique, and do not necessarily apply today.
    (See Matthew 28.19-20)
However, certain principles found in these instructions still apply.

    Temporary instructions: Where to Go

“These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them, saying: “Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans. But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
    (Matthew 10:5-6)

  • Getting Into Shape part 2

    You are hand—crafted… one-of-a-kind!
There has never been — and there will never be — another YOU.
“For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
    (Psalm 139:13-14a)

Your best shot at making your biggest impact comes when you
    1) Discover what you were made to do and 2) do that very well.

  • Getting Into Shape part 1

The Benefits of Serving 92% said serving in ministry positively influenced their spiritual growth. 63% said involvement in ministry is equally important to their spiritual growth as Bible study and prayer. (24% said serving was a more significant factor in their spiritual growth than Bible study and prayer) Over half (58%) of those not actively ministering to others felt “not satisfied “ or only “somewhat satisfied” with their spiritual growth.

  • The Symphony

    Life Without A Reason...

Is like a symphony without a score.
But a life with purpose is a life lived to the max.

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
    John 10:10

  • The Twelve Apostles

The Call is Given to All (Matthew 10:1-4)

How quickly we exclude ourselves and others!

“But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.”
    (Ephesians 4:7)

“For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them…”
    (Romans 12.4-6a)

  • A Mute Man Speaks (Matthew 9:32-34)

See No, Hear No, Speak No

Jesus is manifesting the promise of the Messiah in spectacular fashion…
“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD”
    (Isaiah 61:1-2a)

“In that day the deaf shall hear the words of the book, And the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity and out of darkness.”

  • Matthew the Tax Collector

    Matthew’s Big Problem

There was no way out of his chosen life. He was too far gone.

    Sacrifice (religion) vs. Mercy

Sacrifice tends to be self-serving. Mercy is scandalously selfless.

Mercy is a beautiful sacrifice — fragrant and pleasing to God. For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
    (Hosea 6:6)

  • Good News for Nobody (Matthew 8.14-15)

Jesus comes down from the mountain and demonstrates His authority by healing
    1) a dirty man (the leper) 2) an enemy (the centurion’s servant) and 3) a nobody (Peter’s mother-in-law).
Each of these, in some way, represents each of us. Today we examine the healing of Peter’s Mother-in-Law (a “nobody”).

    Ultimately, Everybody is a “Nobody”

Dobson — “If you live long enough, life will trash your trophies.”
