Living Life to the Full
We are a very simple church with a very simple mission: to love God and to love others. We don't make it complicated, we don't get hung up on trying to be trendy or fashionable. Those things just don't last. Our main concern is keeping it real with God, with ourselves and others.
Who We Are
SVCC is a nondenominational, Bible-believing fellowship out to make a difference in Spring Valley by sharing the peace, hope and justice of Jesus Christ. People at SVCC come from all walks of life and various backgrounds. While our Full Doctrinal Statement (read more below) will probably answer all of the major questions about what we believe, we invite you to connect with one of our pastors (pastors@svchurch.org) to dig deeper and ask whatever questions you may have about or doctrine and teaching.
Kids God loves kids! We always welcome children in worhsip services, but we also provide a staffed nursery. Additionally, kids up to 6th grade are dismissed for a kid-friendly message during the Sunday message. During the week, SVCC runs a very fun Awana club for kids K-12. Awana is an exceptional program that emphasizes Bible learning, friendships and fun.
Making a Difference: In addition to our regular worship services on Sunday Mornings (English at 10 am and Spanish at 11:30 am), we are actively involved in our community throughout the week. Our high-energy kids program, AWANA, meets on Wednesday nights September-May from 6:00-8:00. Our Youth Group meets throughout the year on Wednesday nights from 6-8pm. Our men's and women's groups meet thoguhout the year at various locations for prayer, study, service and retreats. Finally, we provide food to needy families once a month on every third Tuesday. In addition to these regular events, we hold a number of events for all ages throughout the year, including women's encouragement events, small group Bible studies, community cleanups, etc.
Services: Everyone is encouraged to "come as you are" - just the way Jesus would probably like it. Some wear suits and ties, while most wear casual clothing such as jeans, t-shirts and sandals. Worship and prayer is followed by a message for adults (and an optional kid's church time for kids ages 4 - 6th grade). Messages are on relevant topics from a Biblical perspective, and delivered by Pastor Steve Babbitt or Pastor Javier Rodriguez. Our English worship band is always in pursuit of both excellence and authenticity. Led by our very talented and very genuine lead worshiper Dustin O'Neal, you will hear a range of styles from classic hymns to rocking guitar anthems. There is only one goal of the worship at SVCC -- to sing and play to an audience of One -- the heavenly Father. We worship Him and Him alone.
Pastors: Lead Pastor Steve Babbitt is easy to approach. In fact, you can email him directly if you'd like to set up a time to get to know him better. Email Pastor Steve at steve@svchurch.org , or call him on his cell phone at (619) 342-1414. Check out Pastor Steve's story here.
See For Yourself: Well, that's the most commonly asked stuff. There is a lot more -- but of course we'd like to meet you in person! Come visit us some time on a Sunday morning or Wednesday night. There's no obligation to commit to anything and no requirement to join the church. We want you to feel as comfortable as possible for your first visit, and if there's anything we can do to improve your experience, we'd like you to let one of our pastors know! More importantly, we'll simply be glad to meet you!
Our Beliefs
The Word of God
We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and that it has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
The Trinity
We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons, that these are equal in every divine perfection, and that they execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence and redemption.
God the Father
We believe in God, the Father, an infinite, personal spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of each person, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ
We believe in Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teachings. We believe in His substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people, and personal visible return to earth.
The Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower all who believe in Jesus Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Christ, and that He is an abiding helper, teacher and guide.
Regeneration
We believe that all people are sinners by nature and by choice and are, therefore, under condemnation. Regeneration is an instantaneous supernatural work of the Holy Spirit by which the divine nature and divine life are given to the believer. The believer is given new life and becomes a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). This new life brings instantaneous change in a person and Christ lives in us (Galatians 2:20).
The Church
We believe in the universal church, a living spiritual body of which Christ is the head and all regenerated persons are members. We believe in the local church, consisting of a company of believers in Jesus Christ, baptized on a credible confession of faith, and associated for worship, work and fellowship. We believe that God has laid upon the members of the local church the primary task of giving the gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost world.
Christian Conduct
We believe that Christians should live for the glory of God and the well-being of others; that their conduct should be blameless before the world; that they should be faithful stewards of their possessions; and that they should seek to realize for themselves and others the full stature of maturity in Christ.
The Ordinances
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has committed two ordinances to the local church: baptism and the Lord's Supper. We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water into the name of the triune God. We believe that the Lord's Supper was instituted by Christ for commemoration of His death. We believe that these two ordinances should be observed and administered until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Religious Liberty
We believe that every human being has direct relations with God, and is responsible to God alone in all matters of faith; that each church is independent and must be free from interference by any ecclesiastical or political authority; that therefore Church and State must be kept separate as having different functions, each fulfilling its duties free from dictation or patronage of the other.
The Last Things
We believe in the personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth and the establishment of His kingdom. We believe in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment, the eternal felicity of the righteous, and the endless suffering of the wicked.
